If you are trying to lose a few pounds, here are 5 reasons you are most likely having problems losing weight and some suggestions on how to correct these habits, most of these are diet and lifestyle changes that need to make so you can succeed.

1. You are overeating and don’t know it

I remember years ago living with my brother and sister in law, my sister in law weight almost 200 pounds and she was only 5′ 1″ (very overweight) She consistently struggled with her weight. In her mind, she did not eat much during the day, yet she would have a small breakfast and would nibble and pick at food all day long. She was always unconsciously eating.

Writing down what you eat and drink every day can shed some light on how many calories you consume in a day

So, besides her normal meals, she was adding extra calories by nibbling on food, when she cooked and when she fed her kids, those calories would add up. I told her one day, write down every single thing you eat every day for a week, after just one day she was shocked at how much she was actually eating.

Some people are unconscious eaters, if this is you, try writing down everything you eat every day for a week and you will be amazed at how much extra food you may be eating.

2. You do not exercise

There are many people who sit all day and never exercise. If your body is not moving around you are literally killing it, in order to burn calories, your body needs exercise, at least three times a week.

Being Inactive is unhealthy one of the worst things you can do is sit all day

Inactivity kills, sitting kills, it prevents proper circulation and can cause disease. A 2-Km walk can do wonders for you and your health, don’t be lazy, find an activity you like, walk, run, go to the gym, the more active you are the more calories you will burn and you will feel much better.

3. You are eating the wrong foods

There are certain foods that will prevent you from losing weight, sugars, hydrogenated oils, starches are all bad for you. If you are not active they are even worse.

Hydrogenated oils like those found in fast and processed foods are not digested by your body, they sit and cause weight gain. Changing your diet and partially eliminating bad food will help you lose weight. Avoid fried foods and processed foods and try to eat lean and healthy meals.

4. You are not drinking enough water

I always used to hear people say drink more water it will help you lose weight. I did not buy it but I decided one day to try it for a week. The first day I felt bloated but after a couple more days I begin to see the weight loss benefits of drinking water.

There are a few good reasons to drink water. It speeds up your metabolism, cleanses your body of waste and drinking more water helps prevent your body from retaining water. This leads to effective weight loss.

5. You are not getting enough sleep

IT has been proven time and time again that people who do not get enough sleep tend to crave fat and carbs, one clinical study found that women who slept less than 4 hours a night ate 300 more calories per day and 21 more grams of fat than women who slept 6 hours or more. For best results, if you can try and get at least 8 hours sleep this will ensure you wake up rested and energized.

Losing weight does not have too difficult, there is not such thing as dieting, it’s more about watching what you eat and making a few lifestyle changes. Make those changes gradual, it took you a while to gain the weight so it will take some time to lose it, be patient and do not give up and you can achieve your goals.
